EVENT INFORMATION
Age Groups and Genres
Dance Escape 2022 will have the following age groups and sections available for troupe entries:
- 6yrs – Jazz, Lyrical, Variety (incl. Tap, Hip Hop, Classical Ballet or Contemporary)
- 8yrs – Jazz, Lyrical, Classical Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Variety
- 10yrs – Jazz, Lyrical, Classical Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Variety
- 12yrs – Jazz, Lyrical, Classical Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Variety
- 14yrs – Jazz, Lyrical, Classical Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Variety
- 16yrs – Jazz, Lyrical, Classical Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Variety
- Open Age – Jazz, Lyrical, Classical Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Variety
The Variety section for 8 years and above can include: Hip Hop, Musical Theatre or Broadway Jazz.
Each studio can enter up to two (2) troupes per section in each age group, to a maximum of 20 troupe entries.
For each section in each age group to go ahead a minimum of 4 troupes is required. If a section cannot go ahead due to low numbers, you will be refunded your entry fee for that section.
Adjudicator
We are so excited to announce that Sarah Boulter will be adjudicating Dance Escape 2022.
After a successful international career, Sarah has returned to Australia to continue developing her choreography. As a dancer Sarah was often employed due to her choreographic talent and has worked with well-known choreographers and directors in a collaborative manner.
Sarah’s credits include: Enter the Vortex by the Dream Dance Company, Dance Academy the Come Back, The Opening Ceremony of the Arab Games (David Atkins Enterprises), SYTYCD UK and Australian seasons 1,2,3 and 4 …

Prizes
Each section will be awarded a prize for First (1st), Second (2nd) and Third (3rd) place and Highly Commended (dependant on troupe entries), as determined by our adjudicator.
General Information
- All age cut offs for all age groups are as at 1 January, 2022. In the event the performer is born on 1 January, the they can choose which age category they will perform in. The age group limit is determined by the eldest member of the troupe. We will also allow a maximum of two (2) performers, no more than one (1) year older than the age group to participate in a troupe.
- Competitors enter at their own risk. Dance Escape accepts NO responsibility for any accidents or injuries to any persons associated with the event, either as a Competitor, Volunteer or a member of the General Public, at any time.
- Competition Director/s can overrule any of the below rules at any time. The Competition Director/s shall decide on any matter not covered by these rules and its decision on any questions or dispute shall be final.
- There cannot be any prompting, whistling, etc during any performance as a means to ‘coach’ the entrant.
- Privacy is paramount to Dance Escape. We will not distribute any information of our entrants to any third party, it is purely for Dance Escape purposes only
- By submitting your entry, you agree to receive marketing emails from Dance Escape, from time to time. There will be an unsubscribe button at the bottom of each email, should you wish to unsubscribe.
- Dance Escape reserves the right to change competition days or move location due to unforseeen circumstances and entries will not be refunded.
- The plea of lack of knowledge of the rules will not be accepted as a bona-fide reason for the infringement of any rule.
- The use of photos/videos for marketing purposes is granted to Dance Escape upon receipt of a paid entry.
Venue Information
Our professional venue in the Sutherland Shire can hold 1000 people in the audience for each performance. Once tickets have sold out, no other seats will be made available.
Music and Props
- All music, lyrics and dance attire must be age appropriate.
- The length of troupe routines must be no longer than 4 minutes.
- All music should be submitted to Dance Escape via our Dropbox link, labelled with the following information: Act Number – Start On or Start Off – Props Yes/No – Song Name
- The detail of act numbers will be sent out to all Studio Directors one (1) week before their performance date.
- Entrants must understand and adhere to copyright responsibilities. Dance Escape will not be held responsible for any infringement of copyright, royalty or privacy laws by individual performers or persons associated with the performance.
- Please be sure to have a backup of your music in the event that we need it. (Backup on a USB, or phone/laptop etc.)
- Any music left over at the conclusion of the event will be placed in the bin. Dance Escape are not responsible for the collection of music at the beginning or conclusion of the event.
- Props can be used, however, it is the entrant’s responsibility to place them in the allocated prop area, label them correctly, and bring them on/off stage throughout the competition.
- Safety is paramount in the use of props. Dance Escape do not take responsibility for any injuries caused by the use of props.
- Any props left over at the conclusion of the event, will be placed in the bin.
- Free standing props with a 45 second time allowance for preparation is permitted. All props must be removed immediately after the troupe has finished the routine.via our Dropbox link
Cancellation
Although we have managed our event in the midst of COVID-19 in the past, sometimes circumstances can be taken out of our hands. We will always put the safety of our dancers and their families first.
Due to COVID-19 – If at any point the Government changes the rulings of events, Dance Escape will move venue or reschedule our competition date.
There will be no refunds for events that require a change of date or venue, instead we will transfer funds to our next available event.
